I have a dream.

UXDI Week 2 Day 1

This week started out with some mind blowing. I think this might just be a regular thing for UXDI and I just don't know it yet. :P

People don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it.
— Simon Sinek, TEDxPuget Sound 2009
 Simon Sinek,

Simon Sinek,

We watched this TED talk by Simon Sinek that talked about how great leaders inspire action. It's funny because I've heard this before, but each time I hear it, I think deeper.

One of the conferences I directed, Global Leadership Organization, hits this thought pretty hard. From the get-go, GLO teaches leadership from a social perspective and centers around the idea of a vision. Do you believe in what you do and why you do it? What makes people want to work so hard for others? What's the difference between those who go to work to make money and those who go to work to make an impact? It's knowing why others do what they do that makes me believe in them.

Of course it's not a new thing. I just never realized how powerful a great vision is until recently. "I have a dream..." changed my world.

Project #2 Starts

We're starting our second project here at UXDI and it seems like much more of a beast than our first (save me now?). This time, we're given a retail store-based problem instead of generating a problem ourselves. A lot of what we're going to be doing hasn't been taught to us yet, so I don't know what else to say, but let's hope I keep up this blog, yeah?

What am I most excited about? Having Plated as a project. I get to work with food?! This is going to be SO FUN. On the downside, I'm also going to be so incredibly hungry for the duration of the next two weeks.

Obesity, here I come.
